North Shore of Greater Vancouver

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Shore_(Greater_Vancouver)

Is North Vancouver the most livable city in Canada? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX89qkSRBvg

https://www.vancouversnorthshore.com

Unfortunatly, there still isn't a commuter train from the airport to the H Bay ferry terminal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Shore_(Greater_Vancouver)#Access

There isn't even a train tunnel or a bus bridge between Downtown_Vancouver and the North Shore. Inept regional planning has been very slow to build rapid rail transit, or even a proper rapid bus bridge over the Inlet. An inadequate 3 lane Lion Bridge is so narrow that some people have living rooms or swimming pools wider than it. The 6 lane Iron Bridge that's so narrow, there isn't enough room for emergency lanes and no space for HOV lanes. Any attempt of a rapid bus will still have to be funneled into the inadequate single deck crossing.

Would people pay a bridge toll if it helps solve traffic woes on the North Shore?

 https://www.nsnews.com/opinion/letter-i-would-gladly-pay-a-bridge-toll-if-it-helps-solve-our-traffic-woes-11665442

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Shore_(Greater_Vancouver)

As of 2026, no bus, car, truck and commuter train tunnel was ever built near the extremely inadequate 3 lane Lions+Gate+Bridge. For if there had then, the LGB could have become a nice bike and foot crossing.

Of course no bus, truck and commuter train bridge was built next to the Iron+Bridge. The inadequate Iron Bridge is so narrow that there isn't any room for emergency lanes and especially no proper express or rapid bus lanes.

By now, there should be a SeaBus crossing of at least every 5 minutes in both directions.

Its extremely difficult to bring the Greater Vancouver Region up to a proper urban transportation standard. Partly because this is part of backwards BC and partly because there is just such a lack of a normal big city vision.

For some reason, congestive transportation planning just isn't that popular outside of backwards Vancouver, BC.

The Best fix for North Shore traffic is to upgrade or replace both bridges

 https://www.nsnews.com/opinion/letter-best-fix-for-north-shore-traffic-is-to-upgrade-or-replace-both-bridges-11233455

When there is a refusal to build bigger and better bridges, there still should be a regional network of bus and train bridges. However, the gridloc planning agenda keeps winning out.

Unfortunatly, after decades of inept transportation planning and then so much money wasted down a $HIT-PIPE, the North Shore keeps getting hit hard from the $HIT-BOX planning mentality.

The Tilikum+Crossing in Portland is a fantastic example of modern infrastructure planning and development. It allows for the MAX-LRT, the streetcar, the bus, bikes and pedestrians to conveniently get across. The nice thing about the TC is that no lanes had to be removed or repurposed on the other Portland bridges. Perhaps that's why something like the TC isn't allowed in BC, because it could actually help to improve transportation efficiency.

The Washington+Avenue+Bridge is another example of what's not allowed in Greater Vancouver or anywhere else in the BC part of Canada. After all this time, Greater Vancouver is still so lacking in a regional network of transit+bridges

Metro Vancouver taxpayers left in the dark over ballooning sewage plant costs

 https://www.nsnews.com/economy-law-politics/kirk-lapointe-metro-vancouver-taxpayers-left-in-the-dark-over-ballooning-sewage-plant-costs-11198245

It's sad and unfortunate that so much money was diverted and wasted on an over-budget $HIT-box. Yet, no bus bridges or bus tunnels have been built to the North Shore, so far.  At least one of the SkyTrain lines should have been extended to the North Shore at least a dozen years ago.

Vancouver harbour sailings

 https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/travel/vancouver-cruises-top-harbour-sailings-2025-11093357

The SeaBus and the Aqua-Bus just aren't enough, there needs to be more capacity.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SeaBus , https://theaquabus.com/

https://www.translink.ca/schedules-and-maps/seabus

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SeaBus#Service Ideally, there should be a daytime departure every 5 minutes & 10 minutes during the evening.

https://www.translink.ca/schedules-and-maps/line/seabus/direction/0/schedule

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SeaBus#History

As of 2025, there still isn't a Downtown to Deep+Cove ferry and not in 2026 either. Thus, the 6 lane Iron+Bridge will still be overloaded. Had the bridge been constructed to have very wide shoulders, there could have been an efficient bus lane each way. Instead, any bus is stuck in the almost perpetual traffic jam. A Boundary+Road Bridge could make for an excellent bus and HOV lane crossing consisting of at least 4 lanes, with a provision for a middle rail section.

Of course there is no ferry from Downtown+Vancouver to the Horseshoe+Bay+ferry+terminal. Just like there is no train from Horseshoe+Bay to Deep+Cove and to the Tri-Cities

It's strange that the North-Shore didn't keep up with improving its passenger rail system.

Taking a second look at a third crossing for the North Shore

 https://www.nsnews.com/opinion/eve-lazarus-taking-a-second-look-at-third-crossings-for-the-north-shore-11084045

You couldn't have a worse congestion scenario there.

https://www.westernstandard.news/topic/lions-gate-bridge An enduring 3 lane pathetic joke of a bridge! No bus & HOV tunnel & especially no train tunnel around there.

https://www.westernstandard.news/topic/ironworkers-memorial-bridge A 6 lane crossing that should have had at least 2 emegency lanes & 2 wide shoulders for future dmand. No bus & HOV bridge & especially no train bridge around there.

No one ever stopped the Horseshoe+Bay+ferry+terminal from being built. However, its like various people have done their damndest to make sure that no express bus lanes & no HOV lanes cross the inlet, & especially no rail rapid transit. It's so sad that the congestive planning folks keep rising to the top of the B$.

The Lion Bridge and The Iron Bridge

https://jfdatalinks.blogspot.com/search?q=Lion+Bridge As of 2025, still no official plan for a train tunnel and a bus & HOV tunnel. A 3-4 track train tunnel and a 6-8 lane road tunnel would actually improve that absurd 3 lane crossing area.

https://jfdatalinks.blogspot.com/search?q=Iron+Bridge As of 2025, still no official construction plan to add a 4 lane bus & HOV bridge, plus a 3-4 track rapid transit train bridge.

Why a 3-4 track train tunnel or bridge? Someday, enough sensible people might realize the benefit and importance of having a train linking the Horseshoe+Bay+ferry+terminal to YVR and to the Tsawwassen+ferry+terminal

Unfortunatly, when so much money was wasted on a $HIT-PIPE and a $HIT-BOX, more money was lost that could have gone towards improving transit to & from the North Shore.

Community groups want a public inquiry into North Shore sewage plant debacle

 https://globalnews.ca/news/11332030/north-shore-wastewater-public-inquiry

A cost overrun of at least 3 billion dollars for a $HIT-BOX and a $HIT-PIPE is outrageous! https://jfdatalinks.blogspot.com/search?q=North+Shore

This SHIT-BOX mentality must be challenged and stopped.

BC Conservatives support third North Shore crossing to ease 'endless traffic gridlock'

https://www.westernstandard.news/news/exclusive-bc-conservatives-support-third-north-shore-crossing-to-ease-endless-traffic-gridlock/66766 This shouldn't just be a BC Con. issue, because this has been neglected for several decades.

While the North Shore $HIT BOX fiasco is relatively new, generations have come & gone without sufficient funds going towards proper big city infrastructure. Who knows where all the money went?

If only there was a proper oversight committee to make sure that Greater Vancouver was putting enough funds towards proper urban infrastructure.

YVR-Canada Line

 https://www.yvr.ca/en/passengers/transportation/public-transportation

Even if the excuse of a limited budget is used at the time, the YVR-Canada-Line should have been designed with at least roughed-in 100 m stations, right from the start, with enough clearance to eventually become 160 m.

https://thecanadaline.com/station-guides/yvr-airport

Its like there was no concept to eventually connect both ferry terminals with the YVR-Canada-Line.

https://www.translink.ca/schedules-and-maps/skytrain?page=1#canada-line

Indeed, the YVR-Canada-Line should have been envisioned to be a long-range high capacity rapid transit corridor. A 40-50 m joke of a train can't do the job of a 150-160 m train.

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canada-line-skytrain

Short trains and mostly narrow bridges are a multigenerational way of life that was planned for SW BC.

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/north-shore-burrard-inlet-vancouver-third-crossing-bridge

Who knows where so much of the money went, because it sure didn't go towards proper big city size infrastructure.

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/skytrain-future-station-locations

If ever some serious improvements can be made to the Canada+Line, it should be renamed, the YVR-Canada-Line or SkyTrain-Canada+Line. With some proper upgrades it could almost become like a proper airport+line

Metro Vancouver Regional District delays review of North Shore wastewater treatment plant project until legal battle resolved

 https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/north-shore-wastewater-treatment-plant-project-review-delayed

So much money has been wasted that could have otherwise have gone towards a train & bus bridge or a tunnel across the inlet.

The+Ironworkers-Bridge will still have to be upgraded or rebuilt and it should be on the scale of the New Samuel-De_Champlain_Bridge. The New_Champlain_Bridge_in Montreal has 4 lanes each way, plus 2 train tracks. More things are possible in Montreal and Quebec, simply because they don't have anything like Vancouver's restrictions & the backwards BC B$ mentality to thwart them.
