So many restrictions were imposed in Vancouver (V-BC) during the 1960s & 70s, then also during the 1980s & 90s. This was a time in which there was still mostly White people imposing so many of the overlapping restrictions. Indeed, for most of Vancouver's history, there was a, keep it White & small mentality. That's because if enough key people could stunt & thwart the growth of Vancouver, the same would happen for BC in general. 

It is important to note that a slow growth initiative isn't necessarily of a racist nature. However, since most of the people on the planet are non-white, anything to slow down the growth of Vancouver, also slows down the growth of BC. Just look at Alberta & Washington State to see how much larger Seattle, Calgary & Edmonton have become.  

Of course over the past few decades, BC started to become more diversified. However, many of the restrictions from the days of the mostly White councils & governments, remain. There has been a multigenerational reluctance to build proper size infrastructure in BC, because that means building for non white people. It's an unfortunate & terrible echo from the old colonial days.  

Now that BC has had several years of growing diversity, there is still another agenda that could slow down the growth of Greater Vancouver & BC at large. Environmental restrictions could be used to hold BC & Canada back. It could be a clever way to continue the, KEEP THEM OUT agenda going. BC doesn't even have the population of 1 Switzerland. Canada is nowhere near containing even just 1% of the world's population. 

If Canada were to officially say that it's good to keep out most of the world, because it's good for the environment, there would be several challenges to that. How can so many countries with a smaller land area contain more people? Even if Canada had a dozen cities between the size of Montreal & Toronto, there would still be vast undeveloped areas.

Even if BC planned & properly built up half a dozen big cities, there would still be so much wilderness left.

Certainly the housing shortage & the lack of building up a good level of infrastructure, has called for a reduction of immigration. While that might work for a while, at some point Canada might have to explain why its not even able to contain 1% of the world's population? Of course most of humanity happens to be non white, but that's not suppose to be an issue these days. 

Hot Singapore & dry Dubai have been able to build up big & tall, because they aren't bound by Canadian & especially, BC type restrictions. Those cities and many more, would collapse if they were somehow Vancouverized. Short trains, narrow bridges & stumpy buildings, would tremendously impede those modern, dynamic cities. 

Of course Mumbai & Lagos are HUGE 3rd world cities with major transportation issues. Yet, they have the Third_Mainland_Bridge & the Mumbai_Trans_Harbour_Link

Indeed, most real cities couldn't properly function with so much crammed into the 3 lane joke that is the Lions_Gate_Dridge. Bus & train tunnels should have been built there decades ago. However, the inept Lions-Gate-Bridge has become an enduring symbol of the reluctance of Vancouver & BC to properly plan & build for the future. Even a new or improved Iron_Bridge wont be enough.

Switzerland is about a 23rd of the size of BC. Yet, BC doesn't even have the population of one Switzerland.

An immigration plan to attract the more wealthy people can really help to build wealth for a nation. Provided that the infrastructure is properly upgraded. Too many refugees can be a strain on a nation, that's why its imperative to mostly attract the more well off people. Unfortunately, a non-white wealthy person in Canada might cause some jealousy. So at one end of the spectrum are the wealthy immigrants & the refugees at the other. There is a middle area of migrants with general skills that can also expand the economy, but again, some people might become jealous of them.

At the end of the day, Canada still has hardly any of the worlds population & someone seems to like that. 

Since its first decades, BC has had a simmering or festering, KEEP+THEM+OUT mentality. Despite Multiculturalism taking shape in the 1960s and onward, its almost like there is still a KEEP+THEM+OUT agenda in BC. Building mostly narrow+bridges, having short trains, because of short stations, is like a symbolic refusal to build on a big scale for all kinds of people.

From 1985 to 2010, there should have been a continual hotel expansion. Then, from 2010 & well into the 2040s, the number of hotel+rooms should still keep growing. 

The number of BC+Hotels must dramatically be increased in order to meet growing tourism demands. However, there is a multigenerational mentality or agenda to symbolically keep things small and inadequate in backwards BC. 

Despite its size, Canada has less than 1% of the world's population. BC is 23 times the size of Switzerland, yet it still doesn't even have the population of 1 CH. 

There are 2 prominent mindsets that would like to keep Canada having less than 1% of the population. The first mindset would still like Canada to be primarily just for people of European descent. The other mindset just has an overall, KEEP THEM OUT mentality, because its good for the environment. 

It seems odd that in this day & age, there is a mindset that would like Canada to still be a Whitman's Paradise. Then the extreme environmentalists just want the rest of the world to deal with most of the population & keep Canada under 1%. 

Since most of the world is nonwhite, there almost seems to a crossover of the KEEP THEM OUT agenda. Since most of the world's population is nonwhite, a SLOW GROWTH AGENDA would primarily be directed towards nonwhites.

Multiculturalism_in_Canada should mean that everyone can retain their heritage & cultural identity as well as be part of the nation at large.

Metro Vancouver mayors warn housing at risk without expanded transit

Despite being the 2nd largest country on the planet, there has been a strong, KEEP THEM OUT mentality since colonial times. Halifax hasn't been allowed to become as big as Boston or Montreal. Vancouver hasn't been allowed to be as big as Greater Seattle or Montreal. Victoria is a hicktown when compared to Edmonton, Winnipeg & QC. Yet, Victoria has the mildest winters than any Canadian city. For the longest time, Victoria is suppose to be a provincial backwater & Vancouver is supposed to be the epitome of a stunted city.

When the world population reached 8 billion, Canada didn't even have 80 million, only 40 million people. Most of the world's' population is non-white, so during colonial times the, KEEP THEM OUT mentality was the way it was, because no one could challenge it. Canada only has 1% of the human population, yet its the 2nd largest in overall area. 

One can understand why Antarctica has a very limited population, but for Canada to only have 1% of the world's population seems indicative of a successful plan to keep most of the world out. While a slow growth initiative has been a clever way to reduce the influx of non-white people, many other smaller sized nations have already been able to build more infrastructure and accomodate more people for several decades.

At least 35 towers with about 7,000 rental homes now proposed in the Broadway Plan area of Vancouver

Montreal & Seattle have both grown into 4 million + metropolitan regions. They have longer trains for more capacity, wider bridges & taller buildings than what is allowed in Vancouver. Over the past several decades, Vancouver kept putting in more restrictions & red tape as a sort of, HOLD BACK THE CITY agenda. Thus, keeping things as small and backward as possible in Vancouver helps to maintain the small city symbolism & mentality. This symbolism is meant to be a constant reminder of the reluctance to build up a proper level of infrastructure.

On a larger scale, Canada is still nowhere of close to containing 1% of the world's population. It's a simple formula, allow a small amount of refugees or migrants in every year, but have a main focus of bringing in a wealthier & highly skilled demographic. Most of the world's human population consists of non-white people. Thus, if ever a KEEP CANADA SMALL, IT'S GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT mentality is firmly established, it's just another variation of the KEEP THEM OUT AGENDA.  

Such an agenda should be challenged. Especially, when several other countries are able to contain more people on less land area. The old colonial mentality was partially about reducing the influx of non-white people & limiting their rights. 

Luxury housing isn't the problem, it's the lack of building more affordable housing that is the problem. If developers are willing to have some mixed income housing projects on some sights, then they should be granted permission to build the more profitable taller Toronto, Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane size towers.

However, the KEEP VANCOUVER SMALL & BACKWARDS agenda has been so firmly entrenched for several decades. It's part of the larger, KEEP THEM OUT agenda. There has been such a slow growth agenda in BC throughout its history. This BC agenda never seemed to catch on with Alberta & Washington State.

Much more home construction and infrastructure in Metro Vancouver is urgently needed

After Vancouver & the metropolitan region kept imposing so many restrictions for decades, BC is compelled to upgrade & build more infrastructure.

The KEEP THEM OUT symbolism has been perpetuated for well over a lifetime. Especially with short trains & narrow bridges & only a half-assed bus lane network. The Cushing+Bridge in Calgary is a fine example of a new bus-bridge next to a narrow Vancouver type of bridge. The+Tilikum+Crossing+in+Portland is also a great example of the type of transit bridge that should be built next to almost all  of the narrow bridges in Metro Vancouver. Fortunately, the backward BC type of planning mentality never caught on in Calgary, Edmonton, Portland, Seattle & Montreal.

It was hoped so many decades ago, that by gradually imposing so much municipal red tape & BC B$, that would help to stunt BC growth. It's not that BC isn't multicultural, it's just that by slowing down the growth of the 10 largest BC municipalities, that becomes a perpetual excuse to not keep up with building more infrastructure.

The area of Switzerland or the Netherlands could fit into BC 23 times. Yet, BC doesn't even have half the population of the Netherlands. Indeed, BC doesn't even have the population of one Switzerland

If Metro Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna & BC in general, would ever allow a proper scale of infrastructure, things would gradually improve.

The sad joke that is Vancouver and BC, Canada

Talk about a city that continually refuses to live up to its potential. Vancouver is an incredibly small city in total area. [ 123.63 km2 (47.73 sq mi) ]

The Lower_Mainland_of_BC is more comparable to some of the larger urban & suburban regions of the world. Thus, there is a lot of potential for growth.

Yet, somehow so many things are continually underbuilt, as if to signify & perpetuate a KEEP THEM OUT agenda. Indeed, if you can't build a wall or generate a Star Trek or Star Wars like forcefield around BC, then you build a symbolically stunted transportation infrastructure. This helps to create more congestion & frustration. Of course one has to wonder where all the money has gone over the past several decades? 

How did the KEEP THEM OUT agenda ever get started? How did the KEEP BC SMALL mentality become so firmly entrenched? That remains partially a mystery, but it's as if some kind of a vibe or energy has been continually been tapped into over the course of several generations. Somehow this thwarting force or mentality, never seemed to catch on with AlbertaWashington_(state)Ontario & Quebec...

Unlike so many big cities, Vancouver seemed to have a reoccuring backwater mentality right from the start. While Vancouver & Canada in general have become multicultural over the recent decades, a provincial backwater mentality was ideal for Vancouver, back in the day. The old White colonial mentality just didn't see indigenous & other non-white people as that important or even necessary.

Of course Canada, Australia & other White European colonies eventually had to accept that most of the world is non-white. Thus, maintaining a White Only Policy didn't fit in with the world's demographics.

However, suppose that a  gordian knot of overlapping restrictions, red tape & other B$, could gradually be imposed throughout the White BC of the 1950s & 60s. Then even more Vancouver & BC restrictions in the 1970s & 80s, in spite of multicultural immigration. Of course Southern Ontario & Southern Quebec grew rapidly, because that's where most of the urbanization-and-industry is in Canada. Then by the 1990s, Vancouver should have been building things to the scale of Montreal in the 1970s & 80s. 

Instead, the first 2 Skytrain lines were built to only be about half the length of a Montreal Metro station & the 3rd line (the Canada+Line) with only 50 m stations. No bus bridges were ever built next to the existing narrow bridges. It's all about creating congestion, instead of properly planning to handle more capacity in BC.

Some Vancouver ‘view cones’ could be scrapped under proposed review

Toronto, Calgary & Edmonton are allowed to build taller than what's in Montreal. Of course stubborn watered down Vancouver is an exception.

Vancouver & BC was unable to build a wall or generate a forcefield around it like something out of STAR TREK. Thus, a stunted approach was implemented, which was all about slowing down the influx of people. Vancouver doesn't have the authority to restrict Canadian immigration or restrict people from moving into the region from other parts of Canada.

At a certain point, the BC part of Canada will be forced to put more money into proper size infrastructure.

So many urban restrictions were put into Vancouver during the 1970s, 80s and 90s by a mostly White power structure. In theory, if a city & urban area is continually stunted like Greater Vancouver, then less people will be likely to move there. Calgary & Seattle were never under anything like the extreme Vancouver limitations. Thus, those cities have much taller buildings, wider roads & bridges & any of their underground train stations are much longer than what Vancouver has ever built. The Toronto Subway & the Montreal Metro have stations that are at least 152m or about 500 feet, when stunted Vancouver only built 50m to 80m Skytrain stations.

If Vancouver was ever allowed to become a big city & region like SydneySan_Francisco & Montreal, that would mean accommodating more people of color. It's not that the predominantly White power structure of the 1970s, 80s and 90s officially had a, KEEP THEM OUT agenda, but any slow growth initiative can certainly slow down the influx of people & the local economy.

Indeed, by continually promoting a half size approach to such stunted infrastructure, it shows a reluctance towards accommodating more people. As it so happens, most of the people on the planet aren't of European descent. Thus, anly slow growth initiative is a very clever way to, KEEP PEOPLE OUT. Unfortunately, even if there is finally enough people that want Vancouver & other parts of BC to have big cities, there is quite a tangled mess of laws, ordinances & restrictions that would have to be changed.

One would think that especially for a region such as Greater Vancouver with so many narrow roads & streets, there should have been a metro on the scale of what Montreal has. But so much about Vancouver & BC is about congestive planning.

BC Government housing near Nanaimo Station in E. Vancouver

Proper big planning should have been implemented at least a few decades ago. Now people have finally been bought out so that denser housing can be put in.

The Broadway Station area remains a constipated mess. Stubborn people refuse to accept or be bought out, because NIMBY is the perpetual way to be in BC. Nevermind a magnificent 80 story tower, even 40 floors is too much for this constipated part of Vancouver.

The intersection of 2 Skytrain lines, but no Brentwood size towers. 

The trench or cut at Commercial_and_Broadway could easily be covered over, so that big towers can go up. However, the constipated NIMBYs refuse to receive an urban enema & be pushed out. They don't want growth, because that means more non-white people in their neighborhood. But as long as they don't set up a bunch of KEEP THEM OUT signs, their agenda remains strong.

Hilton Hotel with nearly 400 rooms to be built at future Oak-VGH SkyTrain station

This is part of the southern extension of downtown Vancouver, yet it has to be shorter than the 103 m, 340 ft Old_City_Hall_in_Toronto. Even shorter than the 92 m (302 ft) Brisbane_City_Hall. Those are both little buildings by today's standards. Yet, in certain parts of the Vancouver core, they would be consider to be too tall. It even has to be shorter than the 245 ft (75 m) King_Street_Station in Seattle. Fortunately, these 3 cities will never be Vancouverized. This, keep Vancouver small & stunted mentality really sucks, but it's all part of the KEEP THEM OUT agenda. 

Such restrictive & congestive planning helps Vancouver & BC maintain, the keep it small symbolic approach to things.

SkyTrain's Canada Line service disruption

For a rapid transit line that opened in 2009, on the surface, it sure wasn't designed to be an efficient high capacity line for the future. It's still just a 2 car joke of a train. Fortunately, most real cities around the world planned for not only 6 car trains, but even 8-10 car trains. 

Unfortunatly, Vancouver has been hit very hard with a multigenerational agenda of continually imposed small scale infrastructure. Vancouver has water on 3 sides, as its on a peninsula. Since the powers that be couldn't build a Boundary+Road moat or trench, the next best thing was to symbolically show the reluctance to build proper big city size infrastructure. This stunted approach to things is about symbolically holding the scale of the city back for as long as possible. 

Despite backwards Vancouver not being able to apply a castle-moat-and-drawbridge control system, the next best thing was to symbolically keep things smaller than what normal or proper big cities allow. 

Here are some of the best examples of holding the size of things back. The 3 lane joke that is the Lions+Gate+Bridge has never had a rapid transit rail tunnel and no express bus tunnel next to it. Especially, no 6 lane highway tunnel. It's a classic BC bottleneck-chokepoint, by design.

From a 3 lane joke of a bridge to a two car Canada+Line joke of a train. It met the symbolic requirement to be shorter than the LRT in Edmonton, the C Train in Calgary and the trains in Seattle and Portland. 

The+Post+building+complex could have been Vancouver's first 50 story office tower, it's not even 25 floors. It would be impressive if it were in Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops or Prince George. That's the unfortunate thing about Vancouver, so much is done to only be impressive to small cities or towns.

Things have been kept so small in Vancouver throughout its history, that any big city stuff might seem overwhelming. There has been an unofficial KEEP THEM OUT mentality, but since the city cant have checkpoints, building things small symbolically demonstrates the perpetual reluctance to not allow a big city in backwater BC.

Why Greater Toronto Has Several Skylines

Of course many large urban areas around the world have more than 1 or 2 skylines or tower clusters. 

For the longest time, no building in Vancouver or BC, was allowed to be as tall as the 1930s CIBC tower, which is now a stump.

It wasn't until the early 1970s when stumpy, Vancouver allowed a building to be taller than the L.A. City Hall, or the Smith Tower in Seattle. 

The 1930s CIBC tower, the L.A. City Hall and the Smith Tower, would still be prominent towers in Vancouver, but stumps in their own cities. 

Despite Vancouver being divided by an inlet and a river, the city wasn't able to build a huge wall along Boundary Road. Thus, the KEEP THEM OUT agenda was a little thwarted. The various White city councils tried to do the next best thing. That was to symbolically impose various restrictions as a reluctance to think, plan and build on a BIG city scale. The time especially from 1960 to 2000 had predominantly White City Hall and its councils continually impose several overlapping restrictions. 

Since Vancouver can't control immigration or the movements of non-white people, keeping things small and backwards, means that less people will move there than to Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Edmonton. However, with a mild winter climate, more and more people want to move to backwards BC, especially small-minded Vancouver and provincial Victoria. 

In spite of immigration and Multiculturalism, Vancouver was to perpetually promote its small scale agenda. 

While the first Skytrain line can finally run 5 car trains, the stations weren't designed to become long enough to eventually accomodate 9 car trains like the big city Montreal Metro has. 

The 2nd and 3rd Skytrain lines are still only running 2 car joke trains. Running 8-10 car trains is what a proper big city would do, but not backwards Vancouver. 

Narrow bridges provides strong symbolism of the cities narrow-mindedness. When bridges are too narrow, its difficult to have a proper express or rapid bus system. The reluctance to build parallel bus and HOV bridges helps to maintain the congestive planning approach that is vancouver and the Greater Region. 

Vancouver's refusal to build parallel bike bridges has meant that 2 lanes were removed from the Burrard Bridge, 1 lane from the Cambie Bridge and 2 lanes from the Granville Bridge. 

Keeping buildings symbolically short when compared to what scenic Sydney, Auckland, SF and Seattle allow, also helps to maintain Vancouver's reluctance to enter the big and tall urban scale. In fact, the scenic setting that Vancouver is in has been used as the main excuse to continually scale the city down. Yet, several scenic cities around the world are either able to have wider bridges, wider roads, longer trains or taller buildings. 

The world is mostly composed of non-white people. Canada has less than 1% of the world's population and stubborn Vancouver symbolically remains as a small provincial backwater on the Pacific Rim.

Despite Australia having less people than Canada, Perth is allowed to have taller buildings, wider bridges and longer trains than Vancouver. Taller buildings, wider bridges and longer trains are even less likely in Halifax than whats in Brisbane or Queensland.

Such short platforms and trains for the SkyTrain-Canada Line

Unfortunately the multibillion dollar Canada+Line was designed to have very short stations. Much shorter than any underground stations in Edmonton & Seattle, especially Montreal & Toronto. Planning & building proper big city size infrastructure in BC has mostly been difficult through the decades. There has been a multi-generational mindset & agenda to hold BC back.

How could such a backwater BC agenda be so powerful since the 1800s? Well, if you can't build a wall around BC or generate a Star Trek like force field around Greater Vancouver, you can at least continually demonstrate a reluctance to build proper size infrastructure. Originally, BC was supposed to be a Whiteman's paradise. Thus, there was a strong resentment to build anything for nonwhites. Somehow, since BC was starting to be more multicultural since the 1960s & 70s, then even morso by the 1990s, one would think that there would be proper big city infrastructure built-up. 

Instead, it was like the White British Colonial mentality continued right into modern times. Hospitals & schools weren't being properly expanded. Most bridges or crossing were kept narrow. Unfortunatly, such narrow-mindedness also went towards the planning & building of short trains. It was as if there was such a resentment to plan & build big for nonwhites, so almost everything has been kept small or backwards in BC.

BC has had such a slow growth agenda for several decades. Thus, by symbolically building inadequate infrastructure, it is hope that frustrated people will go elsewhere, or don't even show up. WTH? Fortunately, this agenda hasn't taken over Edmonton & Calgary or Seattle WA & Perth WA. 

Most of the world is nonwhite & in most of the world the major cities are allowed to think & build big. Despite the size of Canada, it has less than 1% of the world's population. During the colonial times there was a strong KEEP THEM OUT mentality. However, while Canada has embrace multiculturalism for several decades, Canada has yet to contain 1% of the worlds population, let alone 2%. So much infrastructure, especially in backwards BC has been heled back or thwarted. Yet, the Pacific Rim has a big portion of the worlds population. 

Pacific cities like Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane, Seattle, Portland, SF, LA & SD, just don't have the same impose restrictions & inept planning like Vancouver & Victoria have.

BC SkyTrain expansion

Why have a 9 car metro train like in Montreal when Vancouver can just have a 5 car Skytrain on the first 2 lines? That's because the first 2 lines only have a length of 80m. The extremely underbuilt Catheter Line is a fine example of financial drainage. The Catheter Line stations & the first 2 Skytrain lines should have all been designed to have at least 500 feet or 152.5m long stations. However, the C Line only has 50m stations so the little trains can only be expanded from 2 cars to 2.5 cars, not 5 cars & especially no 10 car trains. It's all about symbolizing the reluctance to build proper big city size infrastructure. One has to wonder where so much of the money has gone, because it hasn't gone into a full size system, only a half-assed infrastructure.

West Vancouver Councilors comments on Ambleside visitors spark backlash

Sometimes its as if there is a harking back to a British Colonial dream to have BC as a Whiteman's paradise. Fortunately, over the decades, nonwhite people have gradually been allowed to live in WV and even buy property. Unfortunately, the KEEP+THEM+OUT mentality occasionally resurfaces.

Any dynamic city or cosmopolitan metropolis will have people from all over the world. However, for those who remember a time when WV was predominantly White, it can be upsetting for some to see a bunch of multicultural visitors to WV. That's odd, because the days of WV being some type of a Whiteman's playground are suppose to be long gone.

Curiously, there is still no highway tunnel to West Vancouver from Downtown Vancouver. No train from downtown to the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal, either. If a wall can't be built around WV, perhaps the next best thing was to symbolically not build proper big city infrastructure between downtown and WV. 

Mercer_Island,_Washington is a well to do enclave like WV. Yet, MI has a good highway and train link to Seattle.

From Colonial times right up to the present, that has always been a, KEEP THEM OUT mentality in Canada. The WW2 era of Germany was partly about creating a continent for only the "best" White people. Japan during the WW2 era also wanted to be at the top of the Asian power structure.

Big metropolitan areas around the world have a lot of diversity. For most of Vancouver's history, it was just another British colonial outpost & backwarter. Hence, the short trains, narrow bridges and small buildings. Vancouver & the greater region are just starting to become a major urban area. BC has less people than Switzerland & Canada has less than 1% of the world's population.

The KEEP THEM OUT mentality & agenda has been firmly entrenched for generations. 

Perth & Brisbane gave up on being provincial backwaters decades ago. Melbourne & Sydney were never stunted by anything like Vancouverization or the backwater BC mentality. Even Adelaide is emerging as a fine state capital, instead of just being like another provincial backwater.

If you are visiting Vancouver or Victoria from Calgary or Edmonton, you will be shocked as to how narrow most of the bridges are in Greater Vancouver and Victoria. Edmonton was wise in the 1970s to have 125 m long underground LRT stations. Foolish Vancouver opted to only have 80 m stations on its first 2 lines and an absurd 50 m for the 3rd line.

The main roads and bridges in urban parts of Alberta are allowed to be wider than their counterparts in backwards BC. So while people in the urban parts of Alberta are concerned or even angry about rapid growth, at least Alberta can easily build more urban infrastructure. That's because Albertal isn't affect by the (unofficial) BC Mind Virus (BCMV). 

A timely example is a new bridge between Surrey & NW. Despite Surrey being expected to become the largest city in BC, the new bridge will only open with 4 lanes. No 3rd or 4th lane each way for busses, HOVs and trucks. Thus, all the road traffic at either end is funneled into just 2 lanes each way. Plus, there are no breakdown or emergency lane, just like the old bridge.   

While this new bridge can eventually be widened to 6 lanes, there is no provision for a lower deck for LRT, busses and trucks. Despite SW BC being a seaport area, trucks are funneled onto mostly narrow bridges. There has been a lack of interest to build bus bridges next to almost all of the bridges in Greater Vancouver. Yet, there is a Half-A$$ED attempt to have a better regional express bus network. This regional Rapid Bus attempt will always be a joke, unless a series of bus bridges are built. The Half-A$$ED approach is to try to have bus lanes on 4 to 6 lane bridges. Designating 2 bus lanes would reduce the narrow bridges to only 1 or 2 lanes each way for general traffic in what is suppose to be a major seaport and urban area.   

Most of the worlds population is non-white and for a big part of the history of BC, there has been a refusal to build up bigtime infrastructure for everyone. While some Albertains might wish that there was a wall built around their province or a force-field like out of Star Trek, BC is almost pretending like there is. Thus, the keep things small and backwards mentality. 

Several decades ago, BC implemented a symbolic slow-growth approach. Despite BC not having any control over immigration, or trying to establish an internal passport & checkpoint system, to KEEP PEOPLE OUT, it opted for the next best thing. Stunt or scale back the urban infrastructure to project a strong symbolic reluctance to growth and thinking big. 

When you realize how much larger things are allowed to be in Alberta, Washington State and even Western Australia & compare them to watered down BC, you see quite a difference. Despite BC & Canada in general, being multicultural, BCs cities keep finding ways to water the scale of things down. Canada has yet to have even 1% of the world's population, despite its size.  

While there are good arguments to occasionally slowdown immigration, that can eventually become problematic, just like too much immigration. Even in the 2020s, some people in the former White colonial parts of the world still wish that Canada & Australia, etc., could be a White Man's paradise. However, that seems so impractical on a planet that mostly has a non white population.

Even if Alberta were to eventually become its own country, it would be extremely unlikely that it could ever impose a White Man's Paradise Agenda. The same could be stated for backwards BC. However, something very peculiar has been happening in BC for several generations. 

Several BC cities and municipalities play off each other with various slow-growth agendas. Vancouver being one of the most restrictive & backwards on the the planet. Somehow the legitimate anti freeway fears of the 1960s & 70s didn't get the city & region to still build a series of bus & HOV bridges. Plus, a long-term, high capacity urban rail system.

While Montreal planned for 152.4 m stations to accomodate 9 car trains, backwards Vancouver only built 80 m Skytrain stations for the first 2 lines. Then to top that, was a plan to build a line to Richmond with only enough level clearance for 50 m stations. The 1st line only started to run 5 car trains in 2025. Eventually, the 2nd line will also have 5 car trains. However, the line to the airport was deliberately designed not to have 5 car trains. Just a Half-A$$ED 2.5 car train, someday. WTH?

For Greater Vancouver to mostly have narrow bridges, one would think the all the stations could ultimately be at least as long as a Montreal Metro train station. Indeed, Greater Vancouver should have built for 10 car trains, but will only have 5 car trains on the 1st  two lines & a 2.5 car joke of a train on the 3rd line. As of 2025, the 2nd & 3rd lines are still only running 2 car trains. Such a great way to symbolically show the resistance to eventually link YVR to both of the main BC ferry terminals. 

The inadequate 3 lane Lion Bridge still has no bus & HOV tunnels near it. Urban parts of Australia never seemed to have a similar reluctance to build tunnels as does backwards Vancouver. Tunnels for Montreal & Seattle aren't a problem either. At least BC is slated to have a new and improved tunnel by 2030, that's only a couple of generations late.   

Oh, if only people would stop moving to BC, especially Vancouver & Victoria. Well, that's not the case, its just that various BC cities want to only build urban infrastructure that is inadequate. Despite the frustrations that some people have in Alberta, at lest wider bridges, longer trains & taller buildings are allowed there. This watering things down in BC approach is symbolically indicative to refuse to properly build for a growing population. 

Surrey should have already had at least 1 hospital the size of VGH. At least Surrey like Burnaby, can build up taller in what is still mostly a mountain wilderness province. 

BC is a long way from New England & Southern Quebec. The restrictive urban planning measures in Greater Vancouver keep preventing it from becoming a proper big metropolitan area like Greater Boston and Montreal. 

Calgary and Edmonton each should have hand an airport+line by now.
