Vancouver, Burnaby and NW...

The Burrard_Peninsula should have been planned as one city well over a century ago. Then eventually adding the Eastern Tri-Cities.
Unlike most of the region, theses 6 little cities don't have wide rivers or an inlet to hinder them.
Thus, it's more relatively easier to get around.
Greater Vancouver has been reluctant to build a few more bridges in the region. Bottleneck planning is the name of the game. Of course for most major urban areas around the world, rivers just aren't as much of a hindrance.

Old Vancouver
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKHVHG2VhZc

VancouverBurnaby & NW are essentially the main regional Tri-Cities, but there is still another set.

North_Vancouver_(city) is sort of in-between West_Vancouver and North_Vancouver_(district_municipality). They are like the Northern Tri-Cities of the Greater Vancouver Metropolitan Regional_District

So far, its been difficult or simply unpopular to merge all 3 sets of Tri-Cities.

NYC 185m-tunnel-leads-nowhere-for-now

The 800-foot-long, 35-foot-deep concrete trench could someday lead to two new commuter rail tunnels under the Hudson River to New Jersey, if the billions needed to build them ever materialize.
The access tunnel is being built now because the massive Hudson Yards development with six skyscrapers, the tallest being 80 stories, will soon be built on top of it. Trying to dig such a huge trench through the bedrock after those buildings are completed, officials say, would be an engineering and financial nightmare.
https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/nyc-185m-tunnel-leads-nowhere-now-built-still-060902130.html
The access tunnel is expected to be completed in fall 2015.
Currently, there are two tunnels, opened in 1910, between New York's Penn Station and Newark, N.J., and they are unable to accommodate any more trains. They also flooded during Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
Any kind of breakdown or glitch in the tunnels can lead to huge delays for the 250,000 people who use Penn Station every day to ride NJ Transit and Amtrak.
"There's an urgent need to expand capacity between New York and New Jersey," says Craig Schulz, spokesman for Amtrak, whose trains serving the Northeast corridor between Washington and Boston are often packed, with ridership growing.

Its unfortunate that the bridge wasn't designed to support a future upper or lower deck. This could have provided an additional 2 north & 2 southbound lanes. Plus, an LRT line with a north & southbound set of tracks.

Metrorail in Miami-Dade County

http://miami.curbed.com/archives/2012/12/13/new-metrorail-cars-1.php

If Metro Vancouver had opted for a modern big city train, IE something like the elevated Metrorail_in_Miami-Dade_County, better future capacity would have already been built in.

http://miami.curbed.com/archives/2014/01/28/miami-getting-shafted-on-money-for-trains.php

Just because SkyTrain is considered LRT, the stations could have & should have been designed to eventually be 153m or just over 500 feet in length. Thus, the original little SkyTrain cars should have been able to form an 8 car train, with a provision for 10 & 12 car trains. Not just 2, 4 or 6 little car trains. That would have been slightly longer than a 4 car Miami_Metrorail_train, which is 300 feet.

http://miami.curbed.com/archives/2013/09/17/-all-aboard-florida-wants.php

http://miami.curbed.com/archives/2013/05/08/miamis-downtown-train-station-breaking-ground-this-year.php

"The cars are semi-permanently attached in married pairs, and joined up to form 4-car trains, which is the normal train length, although 6-car trains are also possible." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrorail_(Miami-Dade_County)#Rolling_stock

 "The cars are 75 feet (23 m) long, 10 feet (3.0 m) wide and have a top design speed of over 70 mph (110 km/h)." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrorail_(Miami-Dade_County)#Former_fleet

A 6 car train would be 450 feet, the same length as a TTC subway train. A 9 car Montreal Metro train is 500 feet long.

Ttrump International Hotel Tower, Vancouver

http://holborn.ca/trump-international-hotel-tower-vancouver

http://www.trumpvancouver.com/building.html

Height: The additional residential floor area would be on ten new floors, increasing from
57 to 67 storeys, but the overall building height is proposed to increase by only 4.88 m (16 ft.)
because the additional floors would be almost entirely accommodated by a reduction in the
floor-to-floor heights shown on the previously approved permit drawings, which was 10 ft.
The floor-to floor heights for the residential component will be reduced to 9.25 ft. and for
the hotel component to 8.75 ft.

The resulting building height (measured to the top of the roof slab above the uppermost
habitable floor) would increase from 178 m (584 ft.) to 182.88 m (600 ft.) and the overall
permitted building height, including mechanical appurtenances and decorative roof would
increase from 182.90 m (600 ft.) to 187.76 m (616 ft.).

Stumps and Towers of Australia and Canada, Etc.

https://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?countryID=8&status=15 Of course Australia would have its first 90 story tower before Canada. Just like it had its first tower over a 100 floors before Canada.

1967 was a key year in Sydney and Toronto skyscraper history.
https://wikipedia/Australia_Square_building_in_George_Street_Sydney.jpg

Australia_Square Tower would have been even grander if it could have been the first office tower in the country to have 60 levels above the ground.
"The original proposal included 58 floors; however, this was reduced to 50." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_Square#Design Although its a reduced building, at least it wasn't Vancouverized to be under 40 stories.
This building was quite the The-Real-Thing for NSW and Australia throughout the changing 1960s and beyond. A good start to the nations first 50 story office tower, indeed. However, it could also be seen as a new pillar within the Global Power Structure. The GPS is in its own AI run dreamworld MATRIX of technology, technocracy and conformity.
While I marvel at the various tall buildings around the world, if the big buildings & big cities just become part of a totalitarian system, then only a very small percentage of people at the top will benefit.

The first tower in the Toronto-Dominion_Centre was also the first building to rise above 55 stories in Canada. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto-Dominion_Centre#Technical_details

Vancouver has taken a multi-decade, thwarting approach towards holding back the scale of the city & its overall infrastructure. However, that has slowly been changing in recent years. Developers might be more motivated to build affordable housing if they can build taller structures.
